Jamaica's largest freshwater wetland — a 12,000-acre mangrove estuary where the Black River meets the sea. Famous for river safari boat tours that regularly encounter American crocodiles (Crocodylus acutus — protected) sunning on the banks. The morass supports one of Jamaica's richest concentrations of waterbirds. Note: verify current access conditions — area was affected by Hurricane Melissa (Oct 2025).
