The Palisadoes is a narrow tombolo connecting Kingston to the Port Royal peninsula. Excellent birding for shorebirds and winter migrants along the strip; Port Royal itself is a UNESCO-nominated site that was once "the wickedest city on earth" before the 1692 earthquake submerged most of it. Boat tours from the Kingston waterfront visit underwater archaeological sites.
