Jamaica's highest peak at 2,256 m (7,402 ft), within Blue & John Crow Mountains National Park (UNESCO WHS 2015). Most groups depart Whitfield Hall or Portland Gap around 1:00–2:00 AM to summit by sunrise; the trail climbs steeply through elfin cloud forest draped in mosses and ferns. On a clear December morning, visitors can see Cuba 145 km to the north.
