A 9 km cross-mountain trail connecting Hayfield in St. Thomas to the Rio Grande Valley in Portland, entirely within the Blue & John Crow Mountains National Park (UNESCO World Heritage Site 2015). Listed as a National Monument in 2011. The trail was historically used by the Windward Maroons to move unseen between their communities in the John Crow and Blue Mountains. A guide is non-negotiable — the route is unmaintained, often muddy, and involves river crossings.
